Working full-time and trying to manage an almost eight month old monkey doesn't leave a whole lot of time for anything else. And when there is time to be had, I try to spend it sleeping, not blogging.

But don't look at this as a goodbye -- just a see you later (in a different venue).

Closet Door Knobs - Thoughts?

I've had my eye on these Zinnia Knobs at Anthropologie for some time now, but I can't make up my mind on which color I want. Unfortunately, this is what happens when I'm given too many options.

The plan (in my head) is to put them on our his and hers closet doors in the bedroom. The breakdown of our space:

- medium gray walls with white molding
- white closet doors
- black/brown furniture
- white / gray / beige bedding

I haven't gotten around to decorating the bedroom yet, so it's just kind of there. Our poor pathetic room is in desperate need of some personality. I know that closet door knobs aren't exactly the most exciting addition to a space, but it's a start, right?

My dilemma is whether I want to knobs to blend in (white), contrast (black), or provide a much needed pop of color (aqua).

So folks, I'm asking for your thoughts: white, black, aqua, none of the above?

Minature Human Clothing (AKA baby clothes)

Can I tell everyone how excited I am to meet my niece Kaylee? She is the little girl of my brother-in-law and his wife. We expect her to arrive sometime today (a couple of weeks early) and I just might be giddy with anticipation.

I already have 20+ nieces & nephews and I don't want to belittle my feelings for them by any means, but Kaylee will be the first of the kids that I've been around from day one (or the beginning of my sister-in-law's pregnancy).

Kaylee will be their first little one, and my poor sister-in-law has been very sweet about the many emails I've sent her way. I admit myself thankful to them because I get to buy cute clothes and think about nursery ideas, without actually having a kiddo of my own. It's been perfect for me.

Now, if I had quite a a lot funding, there is no doubt that little Kaylee would be the best dressed girl in town -- but since I'm very much on a budget and I just can't rationalize spending more on baby clothes than I do on my clothes, I'll just daydream about buying her these adorable clothes.

The Classics

I consider myself a bit of a bookworm, so how is it that I've managed to make it to 24 years old and I've never read a good chunk of "the classics"? Shame on me.

But I’ve got a plan to change that (I say “plan” very loosely).

Barnes & Noble has a “B&N Classics” line of paperback books at very reasonable prices ($4-$7) and I’m planning on working my way through a good chunk of them this year.

First on my list? “Madame Bovary” by Gustave Flaubert.

(We’ll see how far I manage to get into it before I get distracted by another book. I can’t tell you how many books are sitting in my bookcase half read – it’s a sad thing really.)

I'm not a summer person -- it means saying so long to my beloved scarves, beanies, coats, and cardigans until the end of fall. Plus I just hate being hot, so living in a city that gets to 100 degrees makes me a little unhappy about the warming weather.

But seeing these prints by Sheena helped me remember that there are parts of summer time that I love: Carnivals (cotton candy!), days at the beach (reading a good book, covered in sunscreen and huddled under am umbrella), and road trips (chasing the setting sun).

The Happy 101 award comes with a couple of conditions: first, the recipient must name 10 things that make them happy and second, they must pass along the award to 10 other fabulous bloggers.

I've been feeling very blue as of late, so it was a bit of a struggle to think of 10 things that make me happy. It took me much longer than I thought it would, but it turned out to be a really wonderful exercise in seeing the positive. It forced me to think of all of the good things I have in my life, which can be so difficult see when in a funk.

I'm the first to admit that I'm not big on purchasing music anymore, but I have no problem dropping money to support the artists that inspire me. And any music that can help me get through cleaning the kitchen or bathroom is worth the $13.

I've been a fan of M Ward ever since I saw him open for Rilo Kiley back in 2003 and I've still got their first album, "Volume One" in heavy rotation. If you've never given them a chance -- I present you with my suggestions:

BIG Answer - Week One

I know that Wednesday is almost over, but better late than never, eh?

What rules are meant to be broken?

I like to break just about every old school rule of fashion. You know how "they" say you shouldn't mix patterns? Chevron with florals or gingham is all a big bad no-no. Not so much for me. I know I must have driven my mother crazy growing up, because I have for ever and for always loved to mix patterns. Calico and stripes? Yes please! I also mix black & brown. I know, I know! But it works for me. I'd like to think I know what works for me -- other peoples thoughts and opinions on the subject be damned.

One rule that I've been dealing with lately that I'm pretty sure BEGS to be broken? Painting the walls in a rental. I just can't stand those creamy colored walls! As long as nothing is ruined and anything extreme is painted over when you leave, why is there such a fuss?

That being said, I think there are rules for a reason. Call me old fashioned, but I like that everyone has to halt at red lights & stop signs (even if those of us from the golden state have forgotten how to come to a complete stop).

I guess I'm a little boring -- I take things on a case by case basis and go from there.

Want, Need, Must Have - Wine Racks

Ok, I admit it, I tend to buy boxes of wine. I'm that kind of cheap.

Wine is expensive here in Utah (Compared to California, at least), so when my parents came to visit in January, they brought a giant box Corona beer for Michael and TWELVE bottles of wine for me (gotta love my Mom).

Now my problem is how to store said bottles. At the moment they're shoved in the back of a corner cabinet in the kitchen, but I've got a large blank wall just off the kitchen that just screams for this mid century inspired wall mounted rack. It's practical AND beautiful!

My other, more utilitarian, choice:

Recipe - Southwestern Egg Rolls

I've been daydreaming about these ever since Heather posted this recipe. I even made my husband go out to Chillis last night because the craving had gotten unbearable and I was far too lazy to try and make them myself. Maybe next time.

If you make these eggrolls, you better make sure and invite me over (and you might want to triple the recipe).

Southwestern Egg Rolls

Serves 5 (I highly recommend doubling the recipe)

INGREDIENTS:

1 chicken breast fillet

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoons minced red bell peppers
2 tablespoons minced green onions
1/3 cup frozen corn
1/4 cup canned black bean, rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons frozen spinach, thawed and drained
2 tablespoons diced canned jalapeno peppers
1/2 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 dash cayenne pepper
3/4 cup shredded monterey jack cheese
5 seven inch flour tortillas

DIPPING SAUCE
1/4 cup smashed fresh avocado (about half of an avocado)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon dried parsley
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
1 dash dried dill weed
1 dash garlic powder
1 dash pepper

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat barbecue grill to high heat.

2. Rub the chicken breast with some vegetable oil then grill it on the barbecue for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until done. (I just boiled the chicken..it's easier).

3. Lightly salt and pepper each side of the chicken while it cooks.

4. Set chicken aside until it cools down enough to handle.

5. Preheat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a medium-size skillet over medium-high heat.

6. Add the red pepper and onion to the pan and sauté for a couple minutes until tender.

7. Dice the cooked chicken into small cubes and add it to the pan.

8. Add the corn, black beans, spinach, jalapeno peppers, parsley, cumin, chili powder, salt, and cayenne pepper to the pan.

9 Cook for another 4 minutes.

10. Stir well so that the spinach separates and is incorporated into the mixture.

11. Remove the pan from the heat and add the cheese.

12. Stir until the cheese is melted.

13. Wrap the tortillas in a moist cloth and microwave on high temperature for 30 seconds or until hot.

14. Spoon approximately one-fifth of the mixture into the center of a tortilla.

15. Fold in the ends and then roll the tortilla over the mixture.

16. Roll the tortilla very tight, then pierce with a toothpick to hold together.
Repeat with the remaining ingredients until you have five eggrolls.

17. Arrange the eggrolls on a plate, cover the plate with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours. Overnight is best.

18. While the eggrolls freeze prepare the avocado-ranch dipping sauce by combining all of the ingredients in a small bowl.

19. Preheat 4-6 cups of oil to 375 degrees.

20. Deep fry the eggrolls in the hot oil for 5-6 minutes and remove to paper towels or a rack to drain for about 2 minutes.

21. Slice each eggroll diagonally lengthwise and arrange on a plate around a small bowl of the dipping sauce.

22. Garnish the dipping sauce with the chopped tomato and onion.

I've been thinking a lot about traveling lately -- mostly about how I wish I had money so I could do it.

As long as I can remember, I've had an undeniable wanderlust. All through high school I had a giant (albeit cheesy) world map on my wall and I would stick a pin in very place that I wanted to see. Needless to say, there were quite a lot of holes in my wall and I'm sure my parents were none to thrilled.

But it's no mystery where I get my desire to travel from: As a young(er) man my Dad hopped trains across the country, spent time in Canada & Cuba while working for ABC (the television network), and just generally worked his way around the country as he pleased.

These days, my Dad and I spend a good chunk of our phone conversations talking about all of the places we want to see: New York (again and again and again), Russia, Ireland, Greece, Alaska, Italy, France, England, Australia, New Zealand... we talk, we plan, we swoon... we crash back to Earth. I'm beginning to believe it's the number one thing that we have in common -- that and we both happened to marry individuals who are ambivalent about travel.

So since I've been daydreaming about traveling the globe AND I recently moved into a new apartment, it's no wonder that I've been thinking of decorating with at least one map. I haven't decided if hanging up a giant map will help satisfy my lust or just fan the flame... Oh well, either way....

Ikea - Art

My cousin is making the same journey that I made last year: moving from southern California to good 'ol Utah.

This has meant that a good deal of time has been spent at the favorite store of most 20 somethings looking to furnish an apartment: Ikea. And anyone who knows my husband and I know that I love all that cheap Scandinavian crap and he looks at it like something I inflict upon him. So this is the perfect scenario: I go with my cousin and my dear sweet husband gets to stay at home hoping that I don't spend any money (in vain, I might add).

So since I can't afford much of anything at the moment, I kept my purchases yesterday to a minimum. My loot? A poster, spray bottle, and a fold up chair (because owning just two chairs is not conducive to socializing and I can't afford the chair I really want). I think that I did very well.

Where have I been?

I wish I could tell you that I was on some exotic vacation or knee deep in homework -- anything worthwhile -- but no.

I'd like to go on the record and say that FarmVille, Farm Town, and Happy Aquarium have ruined my life. I've spent more time on facebook over the last two weeks than anyone has the right to. I blame a coworker for sucking me in, but it's no excuse.

There is, however, one bright light at the end of my tunnel. I've been asked to help with Michael's little sister's baby shower. It's her first baby and she's having a boy! I love to plan, so this has been a great excuse to get organized and crafty.

She asked for a transportation theme, so I've been working on decorations (cupcake flags, fabric streamers, etc) and the invitations. And on the day of I'll be responsible for making cupcakes (to go with the flags, of course).

Some inspiration? Good 'ol Martha Stewart & Company.

Change Is Good

I wasn't a happy girl. I needed to make a change and I did, well, we did.

We moved into our very own tiny one bedroom apartment over the weekend. It's not perfect or 100% what we had hoped for, but I hope that it'll be the first step toward greater happiness.

This is the first place that is really my own and I'm having a very very difficult time resisting the urge to buy all manner of things to go inside of it. New shelves? Yes please. A lovely green rug for the living room? Of course. A storage cabinet for my crafts? duh. I've been resisting with all my might, but it's soooo hard and I'm weak.

When I told my Dad that we got our place and that money was a struggle he told me that this was his best advice: "Live within your means". Roommate Chore Chart

Anyone who has ever had a roommate knows how... difficult things can get. There are untold number of problems that can arise. I know that it's particularly frustrating to live with someone who doesn't pull their own weight. It's even worse when they're in denial about how much mess they make and how little they do to help out. To help try and alleviate potential issues, I came up with a chore chart.

The chart I created isn't for telling person #1 that they have to do the laundry on Tuesday and person #2 has to do the dishes on Wednesday -- It's just a way to keep track who has done what and when. That way you have a visual representation of who's pulling their weight and who isn't.

I print it out and stick it up on the fridge so that everyone can mark down when they've accomplished a task that benefits the apartment.

I wouldn't say that it's resolved any issues for us yet (we've only been doing it for about 6 weeks), but it's great factual evidence to present at a possible roommate meeting (which we need to have soon).

Oh fall -- how I've missed you! Summer has put such a damper on my wardrobe. I am in no way a shorts & tank top kind of girl, nor do I enjoy lounging poolside in a bikini. I know, I know... I was born in exactly the wrong state.

As a teenage, my mother actually forbade me from buying any more sweaters while back-to-school shopping. Not that her insistence could really stop me from purchasing more of my beloved cardigans... my love was far too deep.

As an adult, I still find myself drawn to cool weather clothing. Every time I enter a shop, I immediately focus my attention on all of those lovely sweaters. It's not enough that I probably own at least one in every color imaginable. I fear that Michael is on the verge of the very same declaration that my mother made years ago.

So as you can imagine, I've been anxiously awaiting the return of crisper weather. A time for sweaters, boots, scarves... I get excited just thinking about it. And really, nobody does it better than Anthropologie (I didn't realize it until after I put this together, but apparently I've got a thing for ruffles this year). Some of my favorites:

Kitten Log - Month Five

The kit kats are just over five months old now - my how time flies!

I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but we were able to find a new home for Blanket a little while back and from what I hear, she has settled in wonderfully. I was pretty heartbroken when her new mom took her home, but it was for the best -- maintaining Michael's sanity is a good thing.

Thankfully, I was able to keep the other two kittens. Michael isn't exactly happy about the fact that we now officially have three cats of our own, but what do they say? 'A happy wife, a happy life'?

My only real complaint about having three cats is this: they don't need me. Well, they need me to provide food, water, and a couple of clean litter boxes -- but that's it.

Oliver (pops) use to be this huge cuddle bug and attention whore, but now he just wants to hang out with his kittens. I miss his constant need for attention. I feel like a mom who's baby has grown up. As for the kittens - they never snuggle. They entertain themselves, which is a pretty big bummer for me.

Oh well. Their cuteness factor alone is well worth it.

Deciding on a new name for my design endeavors. This could mean a new blog – or at least renaming this one and moving it to a new home.
Developing a business identity: business cards, hang tags, packaging, etc etc.
Building up the inventory with items I already sell: headbands & scarves. My hot glue gun and I are going to be spending a lot of time together.
Developing new items for the shop (pillowcases, purses, etc).

In n Out - Coming to Orem

My prayers have been answered (ok, I don't really pray -- but you get my point): In n Out is coming to town.

Being a born and raised California girl, one of the suckiest (yes, that's the word I'm going with) things about moving to Utah has been the lack of an In n Out. Whenever we make a trip back to California my first and last meals are always at this burger heaven... and two or three more meals squeezed in for good measure.

So yesterday, after running some errands, what should my eyes see but I big 'ol In n Out sign on a fence surrounding a new construction site on University Parkway. I was on the phone with my Dad and the poor guy probably has hearing loss after my squeals of joy.

I have a feeling that my waistline will be doing some expanding now. Is it worth it? Quite possibly.

Obsession - Baby Names

As I've discussed ad nauseum, I don't plan on having children any time soon...

...BUT I've always been obsessed with picking out baby names (including middle name combos), so when I stumbled upon the The Bump (The Knot, The Nest) and their Baby Namer -- I was immediately smitten. I've been 'getting inspired' far longer than anyone who isn't pregnant ever should.

And now for the ultimate question: should I post my favorites? If I do, it's possible I could run into that dreaded relationship ruining problem of a friend and/or family member seeing my favorites, getting pregnant first, and 'stealing' one of my names. BUT all of the names I have picked out are so. freaking. rad.

On top of that, Michael has already made it clear that if we have a friend or family member with that name, then we're not using it. See my dilemma?

Oh well, I'm throwing caution to the wind.

We've already decided that our first born son's name will be Lincoln John Joseph (and I'll just about murder any of my family/friends who try and take that name from me - fair warning). The reasoning goes like this: I love Abe Lincoln (who doesn't?) and Link will be an awesome nickname, John is my father's name, and Joseph is Michael's middle name. Michael hates the two middle name thing,but I'm going to win that battle.

Endodontic Surgery

I had a root canal on one of my bottom right molars about two years ago, then about four or five months ago I started having pain again. I tried to ignore it and it resolved itself for the most part. Then about a month ago the pain started to wake me up in the middle of the night, which was kind of an issue for me considering that I like my sleep so much.

I just kind of figured that I was going to need root canal on another molar, just because my life works out like that. I went into the dentist and they told me that my root canal was perfect, but I had a mass of infected tissue in the bone underneath the tooth. Awesome, right? Well, they sent me to a specialist who gave me these options:

1) Do nothing. Deal with the pain. Eventually lose the tooth.
2) Have the tooth extracted and a bridge or implant put in its place.
3) Have surgery to remove the infected mass & save the tooth.

So I went with option three. Basically they go in, slice and pull the gums back, cut a hole into the bone, clean out the infected area, cut off and seal the tip of the infected root, and then suture you back up.

I was awake during the procedure, but since I was already spending a good chunk of money, I figured I’d spend an extra $200 and spring for the laughing gas and anti-anxiety stuff. Worth. Every. Penny.

Smiling, laughing, and using the right side of my face has been a bit of an issue, but things are slowly starting to return to normal. They removed my sutures yesterday and that was the strangest thing – feeling the sutures pull through your gums… not exactly a pleasant experience either. Oh and they showed me pictures from the procedure! Michael didn’t really care to look at them, but I was transfixed. All the blood, bone, and root – plus the ‘big’ (really, it was the size of a pencil eraser) hole in the middle of everything…

I feel a bit like Frankenstein now, with my nice jagged scar that starts at the bottom of my tooth and extends all the way to the bottom of my gums. I’m the only one who can see it, but it’s still kind of awesome.

I just cross my fingers (and toes) and hope that I’m done with this tooth. As it stands, it’s cost about $3500 to keep it in place. Now I just need to pay off the $1000 I owe on it.

Update - Make Love, Not Babies

I think it's incredibly ridiculous that I have to address this, but here it goes: This is MY space, so it's generally just my opinion.

In the previous post I was merely referring to the fact that it's typical for people living in or raised in Utah county to have children in their early (early!) twenties and now that Michael and I are married, the external (and internal) pressure to pop out a kid has increased like crazy. People look at the two of us and think that we better hop to it since we're getting ready to join AARP (at the ripe old age of 23 and 28).

I adore my new nieces & nephews. I like my friends kids. I think kids are equally terrifying and adorable. I don't hate kids and I don't knock people for having kids (ok, maybe I do - but only a little and never in a mean way). I didn't grow up around a lot of kids and I readily admit that children make me nervous. I've just never been one of those women who grew up wanting to be a mom. Motherhood was never my end goal and has always been an afterthought for me.

Many of you grew up wanting to be housewives. You ached to have children. You couldn't wait for a baby to be your world.

I ache for a house, a career, world travel, and time with my husband and cats. I want to expand my world. I want to make a difference in the world, not just my family.

I don't think that my choices are any better than others, but they're mine.

So you know what? I don't take back a word of what I said. I meant it. 'Make love, not babies' is what I'm all about at the moment. Once I have kids, I will never cease to be a mom. Let me enjoy the time before that happens, ok?

We got a disc of wedding day photos from our photographer/pal Alex earlier this week. It's been a process just going through them -- who knew? It's been somewhat overwhelming, but in a good way.

I already posted a couple over here, but I have a feeling that this is something that is going to take me weeks. Editing and uploading my favorites, printing photos for us, printing photos for our loved ones, making an album for ourselves and my parents...

It'll take me awhile, but I shouldn't complain because I actually kind of love it.

Wedding Details - Words of Wisdom

Another one of my favorite details from the wedding. Ok, I'll probably say that about all of the details -- because that's what was most important to me, but that's beside the point.

I designed these 4x6 postcards and set them out next to the guest book so that our guests could leave slightly more personal or funny bits of wisdom for us. It worked out really well... especially once our friends had a couple of drinks in them.

Some highlights:

Wedding Details - Aisle/Chair Flower Jars

These were hanging from some of the chairs along the aisle and happen to be one of my favorite details.

The night before the wedding (OK, more like 4am right before crashing out), my cousin/maid-of-honor and I took the following steps:

1) Knot green ribbon around the rims of mason jars. The perfect length for hanging.
2) Take whatever is left from making the bouquets and make small "arrangements". Wrap stems in floral tape to keep them from falling apart.
3) Don't care too much about what they look like as long as they're green and white.
4) Put all of the "arrangements" together on a paper plate, wrap the ends in a wet paper towel, and shove in the fridge.
5) Pass out from exhaustion.
6) On the day of, forget all about the jars until right before the ceremony.
7) Remember the jars and flowers - have wonderful friends/family rush out to hang them from the chairs.
8) Enjoy.

Simple, quick, cheap. Gotta love that, right?

Kittens - Up For Adoption

This is Butters Turanga (named after South Park & Futurama characters).

This is Blanket.

They are both 3 1/2 months old females and in need of a loving home.

They're very sweet and Butters loves to curl up on my lap when I'm on the computer. It really really (I mean really!) breaks my heart to to give them up, but two adult cats and three kittens is just far too many for our small apartment. Ok, 20 cats wouldn't be too much for me, but Michael has put his foot down.

So that means that we're looking to find new homes for two of the kittens: Butters and Blanket. I've grown quite attached to them, so it's incredibly important to me that they go to wonderful forever homes.

If you're interested or know someone who is, please let me know. It'll only get harder to break up the siblings the older they get. That and I just get more and more attached with every passing day.

Oh man, I was just looking at these photos from the wedding and now I want a cupcake (or four).

Didn't they turn out just divine? We had:
- red velvet w/ cream cheese frosting
- strawberry w/ vanilla frosting
- lemon w/ lemon frosting
- vanilla w/ vanilla frosting

They were amazing and everyone seemed to love them (we only had six left out of the 96)! I don't want to think too hard about the actual number, but I'm pretty sure I had at least eight that weekend. I gobbled up the lemon & strawberry... and it's too bad I had just a single bite from the very last red velvet.

These were made my Nadia Cakes in Southern California, but does anyone know of any good cupcake spots in Utah County?

Wedding - Joint "bachelor/ette" Outing

A couple of days before the wedding, Michael, myself, and a group of our nearest and dearest took a trip to the local sports bar for our "last night of freedom".

We really wanted to hang out in a dive bar, unfortunatly my hometown doesn't really have anything beyond resturants and sports bars. Suck. Thanfully, it was a Wednesday night and practically empty AND even better -- it was karaoke night! God knows I like to get my friends drunk and sign them up to sing for me. I especially enjoy hearing Queen, Michael Jackson, and Alice Cooper butchered by my pals *swoon*

Remember have I said that I felt like I disappointed anyone who asked if I was getting excited about the wedding?

Well, now I don't feel guilty for disappointing them - now I just want to smack them.

Yes, somewhere in the back of my brain I am excited (and I can feel it building), but that excitement is suppressed by all the stress. I'm convinced that all this wedding planning has turned my brain to mush. Things that I've been doing on a daily basis for months and months - the process has started to escape me. My brain is just fried. FRIED I tell you!

So next time you talk to a bride-to-be, I'd think twice before asking if she is excited... you might just be the person she snaps on.

Stress

It's time to buckle down.

The wedding is in t-minus 17 days. I can't quite wrap my head around this fact. 17 days. It's such an unobtrusive number -- and yet it has me panicking.

People keep asking "Ooooo It's getting close. Are you excited?" I feel like I disappoint them when I say "Umm... excited isn't really the word. I'll be happy when it's all over."

I have too much going on to be excited. I'll be happy when it all comes together and I can finally enjoy the months of work that my parents and I have put into this. Until then? Ugh.

Music - No Doubt

The first concert I ever went to was No Doubt. To this day, every time I hear the beginning beat of "New" my heart does a crazy bit of fluttering. They put on an amazing live show and if you've never seen them in person, you're missing out on an amazing experience.

My little fan girl heart started working overtime when I heard they were going on tour this summer...

AND

...Michael and I are seeing them tomorrow night at the E Center -- It'll be his first time and my seventh. I'm incredibly thankful to my best friend/cousin for buying our tickets as a wedding gift. There's no way we could have afforded them ourselves at this point.

Heartfelt Advice

Michael and I received the most heartfelt and inspiring card in the mail today. It comes from a dear family friend of mine and among many beautiful words, these struck me so profoundly:

Local - Bridal Veil Falls

Earlier this week Michael and I took a short trip to Bridal Veil Falls -- we've been suffering from a bit of cabin fever the last couple of weeks and were in desperate need of something to do. It was my first visit and it was lovely, but there were too many people for my taste.

I think I spent more time forcing Michael in front of the camera than I did admiring the falls. Oh well.

My goal this year is to get out and see more of the state that is now my home. Suggestions?

Why does time seem to go by so excruciatingly slow when you’re sick or in pain? Minutes seem like hours, hours seem like days, etc etc.

I keep hoping that lots and lots of water couple with lots and lots of cranberry pills will remedy the situation, but it’s not looking so good and I cannot afford to spend $50+ on a doctor’s visit. I know what I have – just give me my prescription so I can spend my money on that. Please and thank you.

I know if things don’t improve I’ll just break down, suck it up, and drop the money on a doctor’s visit, but I won’t be happy about it.

**UPDATE - I broke down and made an appointment for tomorrow at Student Health Services.**

Open House Invitations

I finally got around to ordering the Utah open house invitations. Better late than never, I suppose.

They're the same design as the wedding invites, just with a different photo and slightly different wording. I had to tweak the photo a bit - the booth cushion was originally bright red, but that threw things off and immediately attracted the eye, so I desaturated it. Now it's a perfect shade of gray.

My favorite thing about the invites? You can see my awesome gold button ring.

Least favorite? Chunk-o-cheeks. You can't win 'em all.

Tax Refund

I got my tax refund deposited into my account this morning and to my great surprise, it was $300 more than I had expected. At first, I really thought I had somehow logged onto someone else's account -- because I haven't had this much money in my account in a very long time.

I guess I was elegible for the Recovery Rebate Credit because my status changed this year. Yay for no longer being a dependent of my parents.

I wish I could pamper myself and buy lots of goodies like this this and this, but I'm afraid the money is already spoken for (stupid wedding).

Spring Showers

Remember how I said that spring had hit Utah? Maybe I spoke a little too soon. It rained all day yesterday, it’s supposed to rain all day today, and it looks likely that it will rain for the next two days.

I might have jinxed it. Or maybe I should have just looked at the weather forecast before my last post.

Oh well. I just wish I could locate my umbrella so that I’d look a little less like a wet dog when I get to work.

UPDATE (12:10pm)- It's now snowing.

Spring!

I don’t want to jinx it, but the birds, flowers, and trees are telling me that spring has finally arrived in Utah. I even wore a skirt to work today – without a pair of thick tights on underneath. Crazy, I know.

I’ve been dreading the warming of the weather and the loss of the snow, but I’m really going to try and enjoy spring this year. The slightly warmer temperatures and cool breezes are usually tainted for me due to my distaste for summer time (especially in the deserts of southern California and Utah). To me, spring means that summer isn’t far behind with its 100+ degree days – and it turns me into a grouch. I hate being hot, because really, you can only take off so much clothing to try and get cool. Then there’s the fact that I love sweaters. I probably wear a cardigan 6 days out of the week. Summer puts a cramp in my style and I resent it.

But this year – this year – I’m going to enjoy spring. I’m going to go for walks, have picnics, wear skirts with little cardigans, fly kites, and enjoy the good days why I still can.

Because once it reaches 90 degrees, all bets are off.
